5 Friends Uncensored

I got an email from my political science professor today and he wanted us to watch YouTube video that’s trying to get more young people to get out and vote. I thought it was pretty cool, so I’ll add to the viral message. :D

Slacker Uprising: Now Available for Free

Slacker Uprising, which is a film by Michael Moore which aims to encourage 18-29 years to get out and vote, is now available.

Today was the release date for this film which is being offered online for free via download.

To get this film you have one of two options and both are 100% legal and legitimate.

1. You can download the video from the official website which only allows downloads from within Canada and USA.

2. You can download the video via BitTorrent which may actually be a faster method. If you’re unsure of what BitTorrent is or how to use it then you can find all of the information that you need to know here.

I for one will be downloading this video as I have heard a lot of good things about it and since it’s being legally offered for free…why not?

UPDATE (2008-10-03):
I myself have not received a notice of take down, but I might as well remove the link to the torrent since the torrents are apparently being removed now.

Several websites linking to Michael Moore’s freebie film Slacker Uprising have received cease-and-desist letters demanding removal of the torrents.

http://blog.wired.com/underwire/2008/10/legal-crackdown.html

You can still get the movie legally and for free from the official website which is option number one above.

Arrested Development

Netflix has been nagging at me forever to watch Arrested Development, but I had never heard of it and so I kept putting it off.

Well, Ben happened to have the first and second seasons on DVD so I’ve been watching a show that is turning out to be great!

I can’t believe that it was cancelled after the third season, but then again the narration does get a bit old and the plots of each episode already seem to be growing shorter and shorter.

Nonetheless, I do like the theme of the show and will most likely finish the remainder of the sitcom with a bowl of popcorn at the wee hours of the morning. ;)

I can’t believe that I hadn’t already heard of this show or seen it aired at all. Did anyone watch it while it was being aired?

Noah and the Whale - 5 Years Time

So, I came across this song on Virgin Radio (which is an Internet radio station) and now I absolutely love this song!

I thought I would share this song with everyone and just help spread “Noah and the Whale” as much as I can!

I heard the song, typed in some lyrics in Google and bam…I found the song that I was looking for. Now I give it to you in the form of a YouTube video.

Coding: Online Alarm

I’ve been working on my Online Alarm clock that I start writing more than a year ago! Really, I’ve just been going back to try to finish more of the user interface and clean up more of the code.

The work that I’ve been doing to the user interface includes bringing the design into the years of Web 2.0 with cleaner, larger and simpler layouts.

Just take a look at the difference between the original log-in page (top) compared to the log-in page after I completed functionality and updated the styling to make it a little more Web 2.0 friendly!

It’s amazing to me how you can have a functional web application, but if you don’t make it look nice then it seems like it’s so much more difficult to navigate and use. User interfaces really help sell a product as well, so hopefully I can get this one setup nicely.

I had planned on uploading the source code to the Google Code page that I made for it, but I’m still waiting to work out some kinks.

Mainly, I’m waiting until I get the GUI finished a little more so I will know which MySQL fields are needed and should be installed by an installation script.

The script itself shouldn’t be too difficult, but I really need to map out the process before I start coding it so I can make the installation as simple as possible at the same time.

I’m thinking it will be as simple as uploading all of the files to your server and completing a setup form that just requires server credentials (of course) and an initial Admin username and password. That should be quick and easy and get everything ready to start using!

There is also the issue of completing the admin control panel. If I don’t complete it then the admin will have little control over the service unless they choose to edit everything via phpMyAdmin or something like that.

It shouldn’t be too long before I can bring this project to a version 0.1 level, haha. Then you’ll be able to download the source and do what you wish with it for free (hopefully submit bug reports and patches :P )!

I’m Old Greg

This is a great video that a friend of mine (through Jasmine) showed to both of us the other night. It just cracked me up so I had to post it on my site to share with everyone. If you find any other clips and sequels to this then feel free to post them in the comments and I’ll add the videos to the post!

So check it out and enjoy..

Batman - The Dark Knight

The Dark Night

So I just watched this excellent movie with Jasmine and I’ll have to say that it impressed me even more than I expected! I know there is also a lot of talk about the movie due to the unfortunate loss of Heath Ledger, but I must say that he was the most impressive actor/actress in the entire film.

It almost felt like the movie was aimed more towards him, even though it was…well…you know…a Batman movie. Batman Begins does a really good job of covering his own origins and what not, but The Dark Night doesn’t really focus much on him..except for maybe a couple things in his life. I won’t give out the details…so all I can say is that I wasn’t disappointed.

You won’t be either, so…Go see it and take your friends!

UPDATE (2008-07-23):
Here is a quick update from one of my blog readers.

Hey Kyle,

I read your review today of The Dark Knight. I don’t know if you heard about this, but did you see that PETA is now condemning the movie because batman hurts dogs in it? Pretty ridiculous.

http://bloggasm.com/peta-criticizes-the-dark-knight-for-its-treatment-of-animals

Anyway I thought you would find this amusing.

Take care,
Cory

That is really ridiculous! I noticed that there were several dogs that would just be thrown around in the movie, but I can’t believe PETA is complaining about it really. The scenes with the dogs aren’t really cruel scenes at all. Just self defense really.

Anyway, thanks Cory for the email!

June: My Movie-holic Month Already

Well, the first day of June was a long and slow one…I didn’t think it was ever going to end. :P I spent most of the day watching movies. Let me tell you, I saw a weird movie today, lol.

Two of my Netflix movies came in the mail yesterday so today I got to was Six Days, Seven Nights and Hotel. Both of them ever David Schwimmer films, but if you only read one part of this blog read this:
Do Not Watch Hotel.

Six Days, Seven Nights was actually pretty good. The basic plot from the Netflix envelope is that David Schwimmer and his girlfriend go on vacation together at a romantic beach. The pilot is Harrison Ford. After a crash landing and not getting along, they learn to get along and understand each other.

That was mostly in my words. :P It was pretty good though.

Now…Hotel, on the other hand, was a weird film. The film is split into four separate stories that are happening at the same time. At times, the screen is split four ways! The acting was very poor, even though some of the actors were acting like actors in the film (you know how they make it seem like they are trying to act).

The film just doesn’t make much sense for the majority of the duration. Near the end, it all comes together, but I’d only suggest watching it if you’re desperate for a film you’ve never seen.

After watching those, I watched the movie Untraceable. It was pretty good, but most of the scenes were ridiculous. The scenes where they show how easy it is to catch people online, find their home, wireless signals, photo id, very detail about them..blah blah blah. It’s just a little bit ridiculous how easy they make it look.

I mean, the applications that they are using should look like AIM and other applications that under-go user interface development to look sweet and awesome. Most hacker tools that I’ve seen (whether they be white-hat or not) are always dull looking and purely designed to get the job done.

Getting the job done with these tools usually requires a step-by-step process that can take a while depending on what you’re trying to accomplish, but in the movie..they had one click and double click method to do anything and everything.

It would be nice if you could do some much so easily, but imagine how many things you could to on a computer starting with turning it on, while on and trying to turn it off..all while only being about to use something like the enter key or maybe only the shift key.

The film just had a lot of little stretches in it, but I guess most people wouldn’t have caught most of it.

That reminds me, I was watching some movie about a week ago with Sandra Bullock in it called something like..The Net..or something like that. Anyhoo, the got an ip address with one of the sections ~340 or something like that. Now, no one in Hollywood knew that all four parts of the ip address must be between 0 and 255?

The film was based in the 1990’s and AFAIK, IPv4 was the latest ip version around that time which means no higher in any levels than 255.255.255.255. IPv6 is the latest used today, but is supported very little and still hasn’t caught on just yet. Major slip-up if you ask me! :)

Anyways, back to watching FRIENDS before I try to pass-out for the night. Who knows, maybe one more movie in a bit. Can’t stay up too much later though. I’ve gotta get up and get those flix back in the mail for the next batch.

Facebook Gangsta Funk

This video cracks me up, enjoy.

Facebook Gangsta from Facebook Gangsta on Vimeo.

Facebook Gangsta Lyrics:

Work from 9 to 5 on a typical day
From 5 to 9 is when I start to play
Without hesitation, head to my station
Pull up my homepage, give into temptation
Crap loada invitations

BLAM

There’s a poop loada notifications
I got females across 50 states
Who I monitor frequently by their status updates

Rachel was R-O-T-F-L today-day
Ally loves when Oprah uses the word “Vajayjay”
Lindsay is like so hung-over, OBVI
Terry is going to the party with Scotty
Whooo da Fuck is Scotty?
Bree got all the b-day messages, thanks a million
Krissy ready to party after her Brazilian
Where the Fuck is Krissy

[CHORUS]
Oooooooohhhh! a real gang-sta
You betta play by his rules
Oooooooohhhh! a real gang-sta
Or go back to MySpace, fools
The Facebook Gansta

Since we went all night all night
I bounce to satisfy my appetite
“Can I get a Ham on Rye, B?” – FBG
“Just requested you as a friend, why’d you deny me?” – Deli Man
“Yo, why you keep Frontin’ homie?” – FBG
“I know, I know, girls only.” – Deli Man
“Yo, why you keep cramping my gangsta style?” – FBG
“Can you at least give me access to your limited profile?” – Deli Man

Apparently, I picked the right direction
Spot a bitty with a natural tan complexion
There it is, that familiar look
Girl: “Um, do I know you?”
Recognize me from Facebook?
Girl: “Oh my God. It’s you! What ya doing later?”
Now I had to play it cool, if I was gon-na date her
Baby, it’s pretty much guaranteed
That I’m featured all over your daily newsfeed

Girl: “So, is there is something you can suggest…?”
Don’t trip. When you get home, expect a friend request
Then if you for real – if you ain’t phony
I’ll add you to my next event list – invite only
Girl: “OMG! You rock! Can I take some quick photos?”
Gotta act quick, best gangsta pose.
It’s reality, dawg
Someone could tag me in those.
Touch me

Time for my new motivator
Quick search and then I locate her
You wonder how I already lurk
Simple Son – We share the same net-work
I wonder if she may be a nympho
I go straight to her personal info
Why don’t you give her some real graffiti?

DRUMS

She loves day drinking and a dance party
Drinking diet cola - on the rocks - with Bacardi
She loves group seshies
Hanging with her besties
She loves shopping
Ryan Gosling?
Oh wait, it gets twice as shitty
Two more quotes from Sex and the City
She loves flirting, traveling, and laughing
Yes, I’m rapping factually – her fav-rite movies
Mean Girls, The Notebook, and Love Actually
She likes cold rainy days and warm summer nights
And being really warm on really cold nights – What!?!

[CHORUS]

Baby girl, I dig your flavor
Overall, you got good Facebook Behavior
But baby, let me plead my case – to please erase
Every picture of ya with the fu-cking “kissy face”
SPOKEN: “But you will get a piece of the Facebook Gangsta”
Our persona’s burning up like a sauna
YELLED: “Yo, hold up. Stop the beat a minute!”
I just confirmed friendship with O-bama – Ah, Yeah!

[CHORUS]

Opera browser 9.50 beta 2

Speed, security, and performance matter.

The Opera Desktop Team has released yet another beta of their Opera browser. With this latest beta the team has added support for:

  • Notes synchronization via Opera Link.
  • Spatial Navigation! Links are now highlighted blue by default when they are selected.
  • Extended Validation (EV) certificates support has now been added! This means that Opera will visually alert you of sites that are EV safe as well as the usual “secure” sites.
  • Fraud Protection is now turned on by default in beta 2! The included fraud protection has matured enough to be enabled by default now!
  • Full text history search! If you can’t remember the address a page you viewed last week, but you can remember what it’s about then you can now just type in some keywords in the address bar and Opera will list pages that you visited previously with matching content! It’s amazing!
  • Alternative tab-closing behaviors. The preferences now include the following options when closing a tab:
    • Activate the last active tab (default).
    • Activate the next tab.
    • Activate first tab opened from current tab.
  • Ctrl+Left and Ctrl+Right for Back and Forward are no longer specific to Mac, but also apply to Windows/Unix.
  • Any many more! To view the full changelog since Opera 9.5 beta 1, click here.
